» Barbara Nicholson Bell - Fascinating! The uses for soy are so profuse and creative that one wonders why the crop isn't grown world-wide - surely it could provide as much income as poppies, for instance. Creating a fiber from soy also opens up a source of income for weavers and clothiers in developing countries.Corn/maize is another one of those ubiquitous crops that can be grown in many parts of the world. Thanks, Lili, for giving us this information! -- posted by Barbara Nicholson Bell » charlestonsweet - CharlestonSweetgrass.com Natural fibers from sweetgrass, pine-needles, palmetto leaves and others make up world-renown sweetgrass baskets. I think this is a boon to the fiber market as a whole. I believe there is already some hemp fiber you can buy for making jewelry or for beading, but none for spinning. I believe it would be close in consistency & hand to Flax/linen. Jet Tenley -- posted by ladyjet
