Hi Firedaisy--
In our daycare links are two that may be useful. One is for the National Association for Family Daycare (if you're thinking of starting one in your home) and the other is the National Association for the Education for Young Children (which is useful for any daycare provider -- at home or in a center -- but is focused mostly on centers). You may want to contact those organizations first to figure out where to start. If you're wanting to start a homecare, you should contact your nearest Child Care Resource center. If there's not one near you, call one anywhere in the state. They may have ideas about funding sources for people living in your state or county. You can find a CCR center here:

Good luck!

Hi firedaisy97,

There is a lot of info and a lot of products out there out there on grants for child care that are nothing more than a sales pitchs.

As CEO and Founder of childcare.net, I personally have done a lot of research on this topic for the visitors to my Website, and have actually just completed a new article called, "8 Important Steps to Obtaining Grants for Your Child Care Program". There is a lot of useful informaiton and links in the article that will assist you: http://childcare.net/library/grantsfind....

We have also set up 4 sections on grants and funding for child care on childcare.net that, again, provide a lot of insight into the topic at: http://childcare.net/grants.shtml.

The thing that most people don't realize when it comes to finding and submitting proposals for grants, is that it takes a lot of hard work. You have to track down the resources, inquire about guidelines, write up a proposal and cover letter that includes everything the funder is looking for in their guidelines, proofread the proposal then submit it.

That is not to say it's an overwhelming process. Just one that takes time and dedication. It's obviously easier for non-profit organizations, but individual business or for-profit child care business owners are at a disadvantage when it comes to finding grants. That's where the hard work comes in. Or, in some states now, there are child care loan programs. Again, a lot more information can be found in the links above.

I hope this helps,

Catherine Pruissen

» louise82 - Information Needed

Right now I am currently working as a preschool teacher at a dayschool. But being that I am not being treated fair I would like to open my own daycare from home. I've already checked out books, read important information, and I've already started making out my applications and so forth. Not to mention I've already called DSS and asked if someone could send me an information packet so that I can be registered. Is there any helpful information that someone could give me I would really be grateful. Thank you.
