» FoxyVixen - New chickens
i have just got a rooster and 2 hens, i haven't experienced any problems yet but any advice would be good. They have quite a bit of space to roam in and a meter high fence around that, do i have to clip their wings to stop them from getting out or will they stay in?-- posted by FoxyVixen
» liana47 - sick chicken
I am hoping some of you can help me with this. I have a black ostralup(Sp?)that is very sick . Her lower bottom part, just below her vent is very swollen. I noticed a little cut in the area where the swollen is. She is eating and walking and and alert.I tried squirting oil inside her vent in the hope that if she has an egg bound she could get it out. I clean her out and put ointment in the little cut. She is pooping but I do not think she has laid an egg. What else can I do for her, Any suggestions? Thank you-- posted by liana47

You need to get yourself to a public library or boookstore and find a very simple book - along the lines of a children's caring for chickens as pets book - and start studying.
Perhaps you can just give your chicken back to whomever presented it to you. They are a lot of work.

» Logys - Scared of Heights?
Hi, I just finished building a two story chicken coop in the shape of a triangular prism. The bottom story has two plywood walls, with mesh making up the remaining walls and floor (plus there are two doors on one side). There is a ladder going up to the second story which is enclosed with wooden floor roof etc.(with ventilation and two doors for access). The problem is that only one chicken out of the four that I own is smart enough to travel freely between the two stories. The other three stay up the top, and when placed in the first story the three chickens just walk up the ladder to the second story again. I worried that the chickens may starve of die of thirst as their hopper and water is in the first story (the nesting box and perches are in the second story).
I have only had the chickens for 2 days, and I was wondering if they will learn to climb the ladder over time. Are my chickens scard of Heights? I would appreciate any help.
P.S. The ladder is at a 45 degree angle, is that too steep?
P.S.S Email me at stakey_boy@hotmail.com and I can reply with the pictures of the coop.
