OAMC

» recipe_addict - Once a month cooking My next article will be about OAMC and will include recipes (tried and true). I am currently looking for some recipes to try and experiment with. OAMC is new to me, so this is going to be an experience to share!! If you have any tried and true OAMC recipes you would like to share, and would like me to consider making for this article, please share them here.-- posted by recipe_addict » mastiffs2005 - Re: Once a month cooking In response to message posted by recipe_addict:Ya got me curious I'd love to contribute something! It's where you cook in bulk and freeze it so later you have meals prepared already. -- posted by recipe_addict » mastiffs2005 - Re: Re: Re: Once a month cooking In response to message posted by recipe_addict:wow! Very cool idea for busy moms for sure! So any freezeable meals will work? Like casseroles and such? But they are recipes that you freeze, so yah, I imagine any freezable meals would work. The problem is, finding meals you like, that freeze and then are still edible. I am particularly picky because I don't like leftovers and sometimes frozen meals like that tend to seem like eating leftovers to me. -- posted by recipe_addict » mastiffs2005 - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Once a month cooking In response to message posted by recipe_addict:Oh, I can think of several things that we used to do for church for folks who were getting out of surgery or just had a baby and such. You'll be a hard-sell since you don't like leftovers, but my hubby and I love somethings that we think are much better the next day... soups, chilis, lasagna, eggplant parmasan. I even keep a tupperware bowl in the freezer that I add to to make a "leftover stew" ... you can dump any leftover veggies in there or meats that aren't seasoned too heavily or in a gravy or something. I think the trick for folks who don't enjoy leftovers would be to do recipes that didn't have to be cooked before you froze them. You could layer a lasagna and then freeze it and cook it when you took it out of the freezer... that way it "should" taste like fresh cooked? I haven't tested that particular theory LOL Oh, and now they have that saranwrap stuff that sticks to itself like one of those things that sucked the air out of the freezer bags... sorry drawing a blank on what that's called LOL I'm wondering if that would work to freeze things that you could boil-in-bag later? It does seem like any casserole would be a good OAMC item... chicken & rice, chicken & dressin'... chicken divan... I'll have to try some things out this weekend and see what I can share This is a great idea though! I don't know how folks can cook a whole months worth of food in one day though LOL Seems like you could cook all your meat and then freeze it in portions to go with simple side-items on the day you eat it? hmmmmmmmm Have a great day! Very interesting subject! Chicken Potpie Each recipe will make two dishes (the burritoes are actually made into individual servings so they make 16 burritoes total). I'm also including a handy dandy shopping list of all ingredients needed to make these dishes. More to come later. Still in the process of writing this article -- posted by recipe_addict » mastiffs2005 - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Once a month cooking In response to message posted by recipe_addict:Oh, the shopping list is a great idea! And those recipes sound like they'll be great! Love potpie! Night! -- posted by mastiffs2005
