Do You Use Herbs?

» June_Kaminski - Do You Use Herbs? I would be very interested to know if you take herbs for disease prevention or health promotion. If so, which ones do you usually stock? What do you use them for?-- posted by June_Kaminski » LadyB - OK, I'll jump in here I am a trained herbalist, having studied with Susun Weed as her 109th apprentice.Top of my list for the family medicine chest would be Echinacea as a tea or a tincture for warding off colds and various bugs and viruses. Another real gem is Wormwood tincture which can just STOP a stomach virus or food poisoning, but you'll probably not find it in the health food stores. You'll need to get it from an herbalist who makes her own. It can be toxic in large doses and the usual dose is only 2-5 drops per DAY. My other all-time fave is MOTHERWORT (Leonurus cardiaca) as a tincture. It is just SO splendid for PMS, all kinds of anxiety, heart palpitations (though not for folks with really serious heart problems, folks on blood-thinning meds or folks who already have bruising problems). Another staple of my own medicine chest is St. John's Wort and not just for depression! Most folks don't realize that St. John's Wort is just wonderful for keeping overworked muscles from jamming up. Just a dropperful of tincture in a little water after the over-worked activity will keep muscles from getting all stiff the next morning. And St. John's Wort OIL is wonderfully soothing to sore muscles and joints too..... Those are just a few of my favorites. -- posted by LadyB » June_Kaminski - Thanks Lady B Wow! Thanks for sharing. Susan Weed is a very well known teacher,...I converse with Rae who taught Susan herself, very fine background.Your suggestions will serve our readers well, again, thank you for sharing your expertise! -- posted by June_Kaminski
