I would also recommend that people contribute to the Humane Society of America (http://www.hsus.org/), which has a large number of volunteers working in the Gulf in the aftermath of Katrina. My first aid check went to the Red Cross, but immediately after that I wrote one to the HUSA!The pictures of abandoned pets have been heartbreaking - I hope the American Red Cross and other agencies will change the rules to allow people to take their pets in all emergencies. -- posted by Barbara Nicholson Bell
