I found this site on Bernard McFadden who was, as a human, an extraordinary animal himself.

Quite interesting. I had not heard of Barnard McFadden. As the article said, he has been somewhat forgotten but he was a man ahead of his time in health and fitness matters.

Do you happen to know how long your mother's cat was vegetarian and/or how long it lived?

For those interested in the Biblical foundation of vegetarianism, I am posting the following links. These articles are long but well worth the read.

I don't remember how long the cat lived. I'm sure it was a happy cat except it had runny bms.

McFadden was popular in the thirties for his magazine and his books. I remember a special salad my mother made with cottage cheese, spinach and raisins--very tasty. And, we had wheat germ sprinkled on everything.

lol, I see that I was mistaken in thinking this was a site about pets.
I enjoyed the article but won't be coming back for the religious discussions.

lol, I believe you're new here, plox, and you probably haven't seen my Welcome message, http://www.suite101.com/welcome.cfm/extr... . This topic is about animals and is written in the context of their favor with God. But no, the discussion here probably does not compare with some of the ones you're accustomed to in the Religion and Spirituality Community. I'm glad you enjoyed the article.

re: plox - "I enjoyed the article but won't be coming back for the religious discussions".

the discussion here probably does not compare with some of the ones you're accustomed to in the Religion and Spirituality Community

It would be more accurate statement if you were to say "with the conversations you actively and continully take part, in the religion and spirituality community"..

I thought to mention this because I do not recall seeing any religious discussions in this topic, nor do I recall [plox] posting any messages in this topic, with the exception of this current religious discussion, and according to the search tool, only one other time has [plox] contributed any message within this topic, out of the 66 article discussions that are available... It just appears to me that religious discussion is what she was looking for and by making a statement that she "won't be back because of the religious discussion" appears to claim that she was chased away because of it. On the contrary, she came here seeking it!...

Joy... your topic articles are too good for this type of nonsense not to go without notice, nor to make mention of what I think is wrong to do. Its not my intention to cause any problems here, as I have shown by taking my disagreement to my topic, and not ranting and raving it out here.

I've visited your topic for some time now, but mainly reside in the R*S Community as you know. I'm simply pointing out how problems are actually started (from experience in the R*S community) and find it quite unfair and wrong for someone to come here and make such a bogus statement then running off, without making a passing mention of it.

Okie - well.. I'm off my soapbox now.... I will continue to visit this topic, and look forward to many more good articles, religious or otherwisesmile...

In response to religious discussion? posted by _Boanerges_:

Hello Joy,

I like your article and your attempt to make people see vegetarianism in a new light where animals are concerned. I know a dog who's been on a veg diet since puppyhood and she's stronger than other dogs I know. She'll take you for a walk and breaks her chain so they have to get extra thick chains for her. The story of the lioness is amazing. I know that carnivores -and lionesses and dogs are supposed to be meat eaters - do have diffrent systems from herbivores so they can digest meat easier, but perhaps the time is truly coming fr the lion to lie down with the lamb. As a converted vegetarian, I'm gl;ad to read your article, and I don't think it smacks necessarily of religion. I think it is only common sense and a compassionate way of thinking.

Thank you for your encouraging comment, catkins. Vegetarianism is a win-win situation, with religion being only one of many reasons that people choose it for themselves and even for their pets. How long have you been veggie?

Hi Joy,
What do you think of a cat that eats pineapple? I had one who lived to a ripe old age.
