I certainly never realized that a Hermit Crab could walk on a leash or respond to its name. I learned a lot reading this article. Very interesting! I guess though, that I do agree with your previous post - I would prefer to watch them at the beach. Terrific article - thank you.

I believe all animals are amazing creatures and I'm sure almost any creature could learn to respond in some way to humans. But I hate to see wild animals in captivity. Thanks for stopping by, Tina.

An interesting article!... The above quote brought a little chuckle my way.. I would love to see a soda can walking down the beach! In fact, I would love to be at the beach this moment (or any other moment actually!)

By the way, which beach are you referring that you visit? Are you an East cosater, West coaster, Gulf coaster, or any other that I may have not included?... My preference is San Diego (southern Cal) but have visited many beaches in the USA and Europe... But.. I've yet to see a crab take control of a soda can and claim it as his new home! ..lol..

That would be a strange sight wouldn't it! LOL I've never seen one either but that's what I read in my research.
Sounds like you've traveled extensively! Like you, I love the beach! The sun, the waves, the sea air and the gulls! Although the only beaches I've visited are on the Texas Gulf Coast but we have quite a few really nice ones (check out my Texas Accents topic). We also have to run from the hurricanes from time to time too. It's been so dry this year, a little rain might not be so bad.

I've visited some of the Texas 'shores' and found them both very nice. I did like Corpus Christi, but was not so impressed with Brownsville. From what I've heard, Padre is the best, although I have never visited. I do have a nephew that lives in Beaumont!

Yes, Padre is paradise. I've never been to Brownsville or to Beaumont but I do like Corpus, the Sparkling City by the Sea! A sea gull that I once rescued lives there. lol I also think you would enjoy Galveston. They have so many fun things to do, in addition to a beautiful beach. And Kemah is only a few miles down the road with its waterfront Boardwalk and boat rides.

Well, back to Hermit Crabs. . .Never gave them much thought till I read this. How very informative. I can see them scooting across the sand now. When I was small, I used to call one a "small package." v

I laughed at your name of "small package". It does fit the hermit crabs very well!
And, yes, I was a lab tech on the Mayflower....well maybe it wasn't quite that long ago... ;)
