You're right, in spite of all the unfortunate things to happen, at least there was a nice ending. Thanks for stopping by my topic.

What a fascinating story. I can't begin to imagine, '1100 miles of snow, ice, and bitterly cold winds in just 9 and ½ days.'

I'm with you, Penny. Makes me think of the old song that says, "When it's springtime in Alaska, it's 40 below."

» Red - awesome...

Joy,

This is an awesome article. I felt like I was right there behind Balto. Your imaging is superb. I really enjoyed this one, as I love dog of all kinds. Thanks for bringing Balto and Togo to our attention.

I wanted to write about these dogs because they deserve recognition. I just wish all the dogs who helped to deliver the diphtheria serum could have been named, but I could not find that information. These were of northern breed, like your Meeko.

Great story, Joy. I always learn something from you, and I particularly like the follow-ups -- what eventually happened to these wonderful dogs.

Yes, I found the story of the dogs of the serum run interesting too. Thanks for stopping by, Steve.
