» Veesuite - Thank you!

What an informative article! I have visited the Great Smokys many times and am always in awe of the of what the park encompasses.

The spectacular views, dense forests, numerous flower species, wildlife, cascading waterfalls, crystal clear water and the mountains themselves are a sight to behold.

I will never again visit without remembering the lessons I've learned today about the history of Smokys.

Thanks so much!

Vickie,
I have always been a fan of the Rockies, but having visited the Smokies, I've become a fan for them as well. Now if I can just find a way to see the rocks through all that lush forest!

Geoff,

I've never had the opportunity to visit the Rockies but hope to some day. They are spectacular!

Have zipped around the Blue Ridge a bit and walked a tiny bit on the Appalachian Trail where it starts in Georgia.

You're right about the lush forest. I think that old saying, "you can't see the forest for the trees" must have started there.

If you're ever in North Carolina, close to a small city called Robbinsville, visit the Joyce Kilmer National Forest. Absolutely beautiful. Old growth and lots of rocks!

Actually - my last trip was spent there at Joyce Kilmer. We camped not a mile from the forest and hiked the loop trail to the memorial and back. We then drove the Cherohala Skyway before heading into GSMNP. Joyce Kilmer is beautiful, especially in the early morning when we visited.
