» biogardener - . . . on your award

Congratulations, Dar. I had no idea that you are writing a pets topic until I was the mention of the award you won. It never occurred to me to check on this topic, because I don't even know what mastiffs look like other than from the pictures of your Lizzie which you used to post in the Kids Korner COI when you managed it.

Thank ya ma'am! I took this topic on when I became a UM so that I would be writing a monthly topic (all my other topics were in the SuiteU COI). I've really enjoyed writing about my dogs, though! This topic has been very rewarding - I get lots of emails from readers, and I enjoy the interaction with other mastiff parents!

Lizzie was actually a Great Dane - Chesty and Macy are both mastiffs. We'll be keeping 2 from the litter we have right now, too - good thing to live in the country with so much room smile

Oh, and to see more about what a mastiff looks like, check out My Flickr Site

Have a great day!
Dar

» biogardener - Could fool me

Yes, I had already checked out your photos before I posted the previous message, I believe it was on a GeoCities page. It is still hard for me to visualize these dogs when I have never seen one of them. We have a great dane with the same grey spotted coloring in the neighborhood. That is the only time I have seen that coloring even though I have seen lots of that breed. Does the coloring come from the danes or the mastiffs or both, or has some interbreeding happened in the past.

I am better informed on the background of doberman pinschers, and I know how their coloring was achieved through breeding. They are my favorite kind of dog. I did not choose them. They chose me. Every doberman pinscher I have ever met thinks that he owns me and wants to protect me.
