The only Mastiffs I've been been around up close were at dog shows but I know all about the drool with my German Shepherd and those "lethal tails" from my mother-in-law's Great Dane. smile

I'd like to say that the flipped over stomach you mentioned happens mostly to deep chested dogs and usually when they are active after eating. It can be deadly if not treated quickly.

Really enjoyed the pictures and reading this article.

In response to message posted by JButler:

Hi there, Joy! I'm surprised that German Shepherds drool! See, learn something new every day smile And yes, we've also got our Clyde, who is a Great Dane/Mastiff mix, and his tail is way longer than Chesty's even - lethal, indeed!

And the flipped over stomach (I believe it's technically called "bloat") can certainly be deadly! You've only got 5-15 minutes to get them to the vet (more likely 5)! I'll cover this much more in my next article on Mastiff Health. It's another reason not to let your mastiff gorge himself at a meal or feed them foods that can give them gas.

Thanks for the compliment! I'm really enjoying writing on this topic! smile

Love & Hugs,
Dar
