I hadn't realized that ceanothus was so easy. many of the others you mention - can also be increased by pulling out rooted bits of the plants - even easier!

I have a photo of a Camellia, in the latest article's photos, of a seed I shoved into the ground beside the original, about 5 years ago. It is a sturdy bush now, covered in blooms. Just lucky, I suppose, although we have other Camellias growing using the same method. We waited until the very hard outer covering split to reveal the large seeds inside

» JaneHollis - Camellias from seed

Gay,
I have never considered growing Camellias from seed! I know they can be tricky to propagate from cuttings, but I never thought about trying seed. What are the results like - are they very similar to the parent plant?

By the way, I do find Ceanothus very easy to grow from cuttings, so end up giving plenty away to friends.
