» Dan_Ellsworth - With no botanical knowledge, ... I was curious about what would turn up in a search. Civil War Era Houseplants seems to regard their principal "use" as durability: "But the major charm . . . is that they cannot be killed. If nothing else will grow in your Civil War parlor, these will."Maybe your next answer will be from somebody well versed in history and/or botany. But that was one interesting reference. -- posted by Dan_Ellsworth » Diana_Pederson - Learning more about sansevierias Hi:I suggest you come join "sanscollectors" at egroups.com. The editor of the now defunct Sansevieria Journal along with many collectors from around the English speaking world are on board. Someone should be able to tell you a bit about the discovery of these plants. By the way, one common plant was just given its official Latin name in the May-June issue of the Cactus and Succulent Society of America Journal. You may be able to find this in your local library if interested. -- posted by Diana_Pederson
