If you read Larry's book you'll see that he worked for Jay Sebring, a hairdresser to the stars. It was quite a lucrative job to have: which is why I referred to him as being well known. In his book he also confesses that he unashamedly jumped at the chance to work for Elvis.

----
I know he worked for Jay Sebring. But my point was this: He may have been in his days a very talented and appreciated hairdresser. And yet who knows, and who knew who Jay Sebring was, beyond people interested in the Sharon Tate's house murders? Nobody. While everybody still knows the names of all his famous customers. It's unfair, but when you're around the stars while not really being one of them, you just can only be famous to a certain limited point.
