» Zanzi - SAHM need encouragement!

Especially spiritual encouragement! Somewhere the myth sprang up that we have soooo much time on our hands, and should be able to devote hours and hours to Bible study, house work, volunteer work, child rearing, cooking, etc. ...

Obviously, whoever believes this never spent one day in the shoes of a SAHM. I very much look forward to your articles, discussions, and also to other SAHM's sharing their encouragements.

Great topic! smile

In response to message posted by jerrib:

Thanks Sylvia and Jerri!! smile I'm pretty excited and really wish I had a lot more time to write. Sylvia you are SO right about SAHM's not having all the time in the world like most non-SAHM's think we do. For me, it's really easy to start feeling overwhelmed and rushed but I try really hard during those times to remind myself that God is there, even in the small stuff.

» biogardener - Identification

I can identify with you on looking for a church home where you have a ministry. Like my parents before me, I have always had a ministry in churches as singer, organist, choir director, Bible study leader, or children's teacher. I grew up in a place without a local church where every member had a ministry by necessity. Even now, I look at the preacher as just one of the ministers in the church.

Six years ago, I was serving as preschool Sunday school teacher, pianist, and choir member of a church when the minister accused me of child abuse. Even though the congregation stood by me and I was cleared of all charges, the minister refused to let me continue teaching the children. As a result, all the families with children left the church, and there has been no Sunday school at all since then. Eventually, the minister left, because there was no more money to pay his salary, but it was too late to revive the once successful congregation.

So now, 7 years later, I am without a ministry to children. Now another door has opened for me for a different ministry in an area which I had not explored before. I was asked to teach art workshops in Winnipeg's largest artists supply store. There are no age restrictions to the free classes, and there have been attendees as young as perschoolers. That will suit me fine. I love an age mix in my classes.

So that is what I will be doing this coming Saturday, and I will see where the Lord leads from there.

In the meantime, I find myself ministering to people unofficially over tea after the church service, on the bus, on the sidewalk by my garden, and wherever else I go. Of course, I have always done that. Can't help sharing what the Lord has done in my life. At the moment, the biggest door appears to be ministry to abused women. I did not know how great the need is in that area, especially in church, until recently.
