» feistyfemale56 - Dryer sheets to the rescue! Cheryl, thanks for bringing this additional uses for dryer sheets to our attention. : )I, too, have used them to cut down on dust collecting on the TV screen and the computer monitor screen. Have put them in the closets to freshen things up. As for the other uses, I haven't done them yet, but will get around to them sooner or later. I am a cross-stitch addict, so I will let you know soon about whether drawing a threaded needle through a dryer sheet keeps the thread from tangling...and if so, one of my bigger crafting headaches will have been solved. -- posted by feistyfemale56 » ravenfairie - Re: Re: Dryer sheets to the rescue! This is a great article! i will try all of your suggestions, especially the one for cat hair. The bane of my clean housethanks for posting it! Anne -- posted by ravenfairie » biogardener - How about mosquitoes In Manitoba, the best known benefit of those fabric softener sheets is their ability to repel mosquitoes. People rub the cloth on their skin and no mosquitoes will come near them. I don't need them, because I take vitamin B2 which keeps all pests from biting me, even ticks.I don't use fabric softeners at all, because they contain scents derived from petroleum products, and they make me sick. When my neighbor runs her clothes dryer, I have to go in the house, because the exhaust is directed into my garden. My lungs fill up with fluid trying to protect themselves from the poisons of the petroleum products. There are, however, products available which do not contain scents, and they are fine. They have all the same benefits which you describe in this article, but I don't know if they work against mosquitoes or not. I have no way of testing them because mosquitoes only attack people who are deficient in vitamin B2. -- posted by biogardener » Red - dryer sheets... Cheryl,Thanks for the great article. I have already tried some of these ideas with generic dryer sheets and they do work. Each season, I store the cloths from the season before in large totes. I wash them first, of course, and then put a dryer sheet in the tote. When that season comes round again, your clothes are as fresh as the day you put them in there. This also goes for blanket boxes that don't have a cedar lining. Dryer sheets can be used for a multiple of tasks. I wipe window sills with them as well. It stops dust from collecting there. My house was built in 1890 and a lot of dust gets into the cracks and crevices. I also put a dryer sheet in my vacuum cleaner bag. After the vacuuming is done, the room spells fresh as a summer day. Just use your imagination with the dryer sheets. There are hundreds of uses for them and the generic brand is so much cheaper than the brand names. They all work the same. -- posted by Red » onthehalfchelle - Bounce Sheets I'm also a fan of the dryer sheet's many uses, but my personal favorite it that IT GETS THE BUGS OFF THE WINDSHIELD with ease!-- posted by onthehalfchelle » serenitystarlite - dryer sheets are not a good idea I just came across this community because I was researching whether or not dryer sheets are safe. Before I found this one, I found several sites that confirmed what I thought. Dryer sheets are not safe nor are they environmentally friendly. They contain a lot of chemicals and they take an extremely long time to biodegrade.Read this article which says that even if the chemicals don't bother you now, they will later. They actually have this site listed and supposedly these are chemical free dryer sheets that are reusable. I just wanted to let you all know because using dryer sheets in the dryer is bad enough, but if you're using them all over your house, you might be slowing poisoning yourself, children, and pets. -- posted by serenitystarlite
