The Disturbing Trend of Pro-anorexia Websites
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 3 4 5 Next » » foreverpink_87 - to loquita In response to message posted by Loquita21:I just wanted to say that I came to the website and was initially shocked by what some of the people here said. As I was reading your reply to oklahoman, I could see your genuinity in your advice. People like you are what saved me, and keep me from making even bigger more destructive decisions. For me it all started with the homecoming dance at my school, you know the drill trying to lose weight for your dress. People kept on saying how good I looked so I kept on doing it. Thank you for being you. I know i would probably not have stopped if it had not been for my friends. I was luckily and stopped early on, but after hearing your triumiphous story i realize how truly luck I am. I mainly did it to feel beautiful. -- posted by foreverpink_87 » ekfsu03 - to everyone An eating disorder killed my best friend, so I don't see how anyone can stand behind these pro-ana websites. It's true that what drives people to visit them is a sense of not being understood. There are other places you can go to be understood! Another friend of mine who is anorexic recently joined group therapy, and she was amazed at the number of people she met who understood everything that was going on in her head. To everyone who suffers from an eating disorder, or "chooses" the pro-ana lifestyle: Please, don't so this to yourselves or to the people who love you.-- posted by ekfsu03 » babiplayboy69 - personally you guys have no idea or whoever wrote that article h personally you guys have no idea or whoever wrote that article has no idea what goes on in those sites. I have been anorexic for almost 2 years now and I love those sites. They help me when I feel I need to be helped. Have you even taken a damn look and seen the messges or posts or links that says RECOVERY???? almost every site has a link to that or a fourm for people who want help to get help. You guys are ignorant and dont see our point of view. You dont have to like everything on the internet and surely you want be. But take the time to understand the meaning of the site. Because not all of them promote it or want people to join. IT also clearly states if you want to lose a couple pds dont join or shit like that. Take the time to look at the damn sites to understand and THEN make you comment or opinion that more so people who look over and ingore the fact that you have said what you feel needed to be said. Thanx-- posted by babiplayboy69 » HeatherM_3 - Re: personally you guys have no idea or whoever wrote that artic In response to message posted by babiplayboy69:
I agree that group settings can certainly beneficial. I found it tremendously healing when I ended up in a group and realized there were a whole bunch of people as screwed up as I was. However, I continue to believe that the pro-ana sites are dangerous. And I do mean the true pro-ana sites, which promote anorexia as 'wonderful and special' and encourage young girls to delve further into a very dangerous disorder. As far as the sites which may point others towards recovery... more power to them. Heather -- posted by HeatherM_3 » Fatass07 - Re: personally you guys have no idea or whoever wrote that artic I totally agree with you babiplayboy69. I have had eating disorders for about 2 years also and I go to the sites everday for hours. They are so supportive, and don't push anyone to have an eating disorder. They just support you with whatever you want to do. They agree that ana/mia are a pain in the ass but it's our disease and it's what we live with. Don't you dare diss these sites or try to get rid of them because it's sometimes the only way we can vent, and actually talk to someone about how were feeling because no one else understands.-- posted by Fatass07 » JustSmall85 - Re: Re: Re: The Disturbing Trend of Pro-anorexia Websites In response to message posted by Loquita21:I'm not sure how I ended up on this website, but when I read what you (loquita21)had to say, It made me feel bad for the girl, who felt like ana was her best way out. My sister used to weigh 280lbs. How she lost her weight, not entirely sure, but I know how she felt, I saw what it was like for her to go through all those jokes avd bulls*** everyday in hs. I understand that ana isn't the best way to go, but for some people... they have no idea what to do. I kinda think it's like a sevse of taking back control, because ovce your body gets over weight, you're out of control right? Well telling yourself or making youself not eat is like being back in control, but take it from me... feeling hungry because you skipped a meal, or feeling like you could just pass out- not fun!! There are other ways to deal with it, even if you feel like there's nothing left to do or no one you can talk to, you can always talk to someone!! ~Sincerely, me. P.S. I've noticed sometimes confiding in someone you dont know very well but will at least listen is better than trying to talk to someonre who you know and judge you. P.P.S. The original point of this was to be nice to people you dont know. You may think she knows "nothing" about being ana, but you dont know anything about her. You cant throw around terms like "deeply disturbed" when you know nothing about that person. It's like telling a cutter that there are "f***ed up* just twist the knife deeper! Just thought I'd mention that. -- posted by JustSmall85 » Trac4 - Re: Re: PLEASE READ I really don't agree with the whole pro-ana websites but its still going to be seen on the Internet. We're just going to find things that are not appropriate on the net but we its still in full-view anyway. I mean look at PORN, that is something that shouldn't be on the Internet but its still is as well as the pro-ana websites. People just have deal that anorexia will always be around. So, if you are one of those you are fussing over their sites then you shouldn't be looking into it anyway.-- posted by Trac4 » georgia23 - Re: youre lucky No one is lucky to be thin if they have an eating disorder. You should be glad that you even have friends that are guys. Most girls wish that guys would actually talk to them. Having an eating disorder has been one of the biggest challenges in my life. I was just told the other day by a guy in my class that I am very attractive, but if I gained some weight, I would look "hot". See, they don't always go for the extra thin girls. They do like girls that are healthy in weight. I just didn't know that at the time, and I messed myself up. I didn't do this just for some guy though. It wasn't about them. But now that it has happened it's too hard to get back to normal. PLEASE, think about what your doing, and why your doing it. If some guy can't accept you for who you are and what you look like, then you don't need him.-- posted by georgia23 » mandy89 - personally you guys have no idea or whoever wrote that article h hey, im just writting in response to your message. i dont think that i have an eating dissorder, but i just want to know what the web sites are for the eating dissorders, the ones with the girls that are in a group and premote it. cheers, mandy.-- posted by mandy89 » mandy89 - Re: personally you guys have no idea or whoever wrote that artic i havent ever had a weight problem before and to here about the girls that have, its really upsetting. all the girls that have one stop when you get to about 50kilos i way that and i look fine. its really bad that you girls think that, that is the only way to loose weight its not girls, there is so many other options. im sure all you girls look great and dont give 2 shits what people think of you i dont. be strong girls!! mandy-- posted by mandy89 « Previous 1 2 3 4 5 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
