» sunflower999 - Resources and Ideas For Unschooling

What resources do unschoolers use? We don't claim to be 100% unschoolers because I use some purchased curriculum and have lots of books of ideas for activities and arts and crafts to draw upon.

I do like the concept of living and learning together. The home and "school" activities are becoming less distinguishable from each other as I learn and find new ways to work learning into our every day routine.

Hi Sunflower,

Your post really made me take notice. I liked it.

I am going to be new to homeschooling. My 3 1/2 year old is going to be leaving his special ed preschool in March, because he does not meet the 25% delay any more. I disagree, with the early intervention staff.

I am a full time college student, coming off of public assistance. My son has a physical disability that will keep him out of daycare, but slight enough to keep him in early intervention. He has irratable bowl syndrome, and cannot be potty trained. He will be four in march.

I am scared but I can teach him at home. He is going to be crushed leaving his friends.

His caseworker is leaving us high and dry, basically, "See Ya, good luck." I could probably find a disability law project, but they are convinced that my son is fine.

I get zero day care money, was told that I do not qualify for subsazized child care.

I do worry about him being isolated, from other children. He has an older sister, who is also swhowing some learning disabilities.

I wonder where do I get the needed resources for setting up a program from home? I mean, where do I go, to buy materials for cheap?

I live in South Eastern, PA, but no such luck there.

I do not want him to loose the skills that he got in Early intervention. He still has a delay. Where do I get started? I appriciate any feedback.

First of all, I believe it is a myth that children need other children. This is a relatively new concept of the 20th century. On the contrary, evidence shows the peer dependence and peer pressure have detrimental effects on children. Check out some of the links under Food For Thought at http://www.geocities.com/susanfr1956.

Some inexpensive curriculum providers you may want to investigate:

KONOS

FIVE IN A ROW

Book - "Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons" and the website with free supplements at http://rozalski.tripod.com/WorksheetsUnl...
This is just a start. You can find many free and used resources. Ask around at some message boards like http://www.kaleidoscapes.com, http://www.vegsource.com, and http://www.crosswalk.com and also look at http://www.homeschoolcentral.com, http://www.eho.org, and http://www.homeschoolzone.com as well as about.com's homeschool area.

Hope this helps.
