» paleogeoff - Content?

Frank & Brandy,

I also noticed a lack of enthusiasm for RPGs after Sept. 11, but I feel that by giving up on those tings that are passionate to us and give us pleasure, then we are giving in to those who perpetrated the attack against us. I have actually found that my creativity has increased after Sept. 11, mostly as an attempt at some sort of normalcy. D&D, and RPGs in general, offer us an escape from the world we live in, and to take on roles where we can be the heros. I think such activity is healthy and I encourage it, otherwise we risk being sucked into a deep depression. We will never forget the real heros of our world, but I think the best way we can honor them is to live our lives as we always have.

I hope you decide to stay with Suite. I, too, have wrestled with the problem. To stay or not to stay, that is the question. For me, I decided to stay. I think some good things will come to those who will stay, and I like having a medium where I can publish my articles on geology. I hope you decide to stay, but if you choose to seek greener pastures, I wish you good luck.

I agree, most people who play RPG's use them to escape real life, some use them as springboards for there imagination. Still others use them to allow themselves to be something they wish they could be if only in the collective mind of their group.

We did take a week off from our weekly game, after Sept 11th but like palegeoff mentions our games did increase in creativity and passion just in an attempt to resume to normalcy.

The best weapon against terrorism is to live life as you always have and not give in to fear.

Therefore escapism is and always will be the first tool the human mind uses to combat feelings of defenslessness.

After all look back in time to the stories of the Romans, Greeks and so forth, how many Hercules or Perseus' were there? More likely then not more than you would think.

I for one will keep pulling my Hercules out if only to fight the dragon and save the maiden (especially if I get to kiss her... lol).

Comments from Brandy:

We are still waiting for our gaming group to what's the word...come to life? I think it's more than Sept 11 for many of us though. Other life changes have come for so many.

Here's to a new year and brighter days.
