» biogardener - Reusing silk flowers

I thought up a good way to reuse silk flowers after they have served their intended purpose. I had noticed that we had a lot of flowers donated to church rummage sales, and they were not selling at all. Rather than give them all to the Salvation Army secondhand store where they would gather dust, I requisitioned them for the Sunday school. We took off just the silk parts of flowers and made Mother's Day cards for all the women in church, but Valentine's would have been just as good an occasion. You need to attach the flowers to the paper with tacky glue to keep the silk from getting stiff. The cards were a big smash, especially since most of them were made by my preschooler class as could easily be seen by the big letters of the text and the signatures inside the card.

That gives me an idea. I am going to write my Valentine's article on that for my Young at Art topic. I had better get going on it right away.

What a great idea! I've had to throw away silk flowers because some had gotten too old and dusty, but I never thought about peeling away the damaged part and reusing the "newer" inside petals.

I can imagine the kids really enjoyed making the cards. What fun!

Thanks for sharing your idea. smile

» jerrib - Good idea, Vickie

By removing them and making a new arrangement with different colors for different occasions you use the silk flowers over and over again.
