» spondulix11 - Amistad Red flags start going up the instant I read a move review or movie preview that starts with "Based on a true story" If I've learned anything about movies its that they do not put much of an effort in being historically accurate. While there are a few exceptions to the rule, Amistad is not one of them. They choose to make the movie about slavery, when in fact the reason the Amistad blacks kill the crew and attempted to return to their homeland is due to a cruel trick played on them by the ships cook. One of the blacks questioned the cook about where they were bound and the cook attempting to have some fun with them explained they were being transported to America where everyone were cannibals and they were being taken their to be food. This is what caused the bound men to break out of their bondage and attack and kill the crew, after all what did they have to lose? The scene in the Supreme Court was grand, but totally wrong. In fact the original building with tables and chairs could have been used in the film but the director decided it was to plan of a setting and opted for a much plusher setting.-- posted by spondulix11 » foxshadow - Re: Amistad In response to message posted by spondulix11:I appreciate your comments on the subject. I am sure that you bring up some very valid points. At this point however, my only intent with my reviews is to analyze the dramatic qualities of a film and not the authenticity. For my readers, I thank you for pointing this out about the history. It provides an interesting comparison between the way the story was presented in the film and the way it may have actually occurred. -- posted by foxshadow
