Please Help!! BOOK!!!

In the movie Color of Friendship, Mahree Bok was reading a book. It is toward the beginning, and Piper's father comes in and he says that that book that she was reading showed white people how bad slavery really was. Does anyone remember what that book was called? or who it was by? it was a fat book. it wasn't the book she had to read for school, it was a different book "the best book in the house." i would greatly appreciate it if someone could get back to me on that.

***The book is called "ROOTS" by Alex Haley. Any library worth its sale should have a copy. "Roots" has a sequel and was made into a movie in the late 70s/early 80s.

The book she had to read for school is called "Cry, The Beloved Country" by Paton.

I hope you enjoy the reading. Both are truly remarkable books.
