» Joy Butler - Square Families

This was a down to earth article that is in touch with reality. At various times,I have used my third bedroom for a schoolroom, an office and a kennel room and may someday turn it into an exercise room.

» XLadyRogue - Me in my House

My home was a display model manufactured/mobile home. What we saw is what we got. We chose it because it was a great deal and we saw possibilities for adding on and remodeling to make it a version of our ultimate dream home.

Our needs absolutely do not fit the typical home. We need bedrooms, living area, storage, office and classroom space, a kitchen and dining area closed to cats, and a personal dojang.

No house I have ever seen suits us. Who are these people that fit into model homes?

» RaphaelBlue - Great!

Hi Karen,

I love the idea of putting things where they're used rather than where they're "supposed" to be kept. Great article!

One of the things I learned when I began getting organized was to keep all the things for an activity together. For example, keep the racket, tennis outfit, balls, etc. together, grouping by activity rather than grouping by similarity (balls with balls, clothing with clothing). This seems to work!

» ChngngWmn - Who Are These People?

LOL!! I just had to laugh when I read this line...I truly believe that there are more of us out there that are not the "average American family" for whatever reason, yet most housing is designed with that mythical family in mind. Wouldn't it be cool if there was such a thing as modular housing--you buy the units (rooms) you want and specify where you want them placed and the builder puts them together under one roof (or however many roofs you want!) for you.

...okay, back from daydreaming. :-)

Anyway, thanks for your comments everyone and may your homes be blessed to provide comfort and satisfaction to you and yours.

Karen

» gqduong - Great story!

Karen, I just wanted to tell you how great I found this story! My boyfriend just moved in this past weekend and we are stressing over how to deal with the new influx of furniture in my already furnished little cottage of a house. What an excellent column. Thanks so much for sharing!

Ah a free spirit. A woman able to think beyond the square! Great.
