Does anyone know anything about the way narwhals were perceived around the turn-of-the-century? I am writing a paper on a one-of-a-kind Tiffany dressing table and chair that incorporate narwhal tusks, and I am wondering what the significance of using the tusks might be.Thank you very much for any input.

I can't say as I know the "meaning" behind using the Narwhal tusks in the furniture, but I do know that the tusks are a sign of vitality, "oneness with nature," but were often used in fertility ceremonies as well.Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance....
