These babies really look like walking death! I went to the website and read the whole story. It always amazes me what a few compassionate and dedicated people can do to fight the pain in this world.

How are these babies doing now? What treatments are they getting? Please give them each a hug from me.

In response to message posted by JButler:

Joy, the rescuers who helped these poor dogs are just incredible. They drove great distances, and even though we were assured by the vet that they could make the trip with care provided, these volunteers had to fear their pitiful passengers might have perished in route.

This IS Rescue, people working together to try and alleviate the suffering of animals.

These 3 are a full time job all by themselves. Twice a day I was lifting each one into the tub for baths. In the morning I use a gentle loofa, and scrub them with surgical scrub to remove the dead skin. In the evening I bathe them with sulfa oxydex. After each bath they are massaged, over every inch of their little bodies with lotion. Now I can bath every couple of days.

They are fed every few hours round the clock. Their wounds, eyes, and ears are treated several times during the day.

And I have never been more tired in my life--but it is worth it. What I find amazing is their spirits! They are the happiest dogs I've ever known. :.-) They are gaining weight very slowly, but their skin is softening, and in just two weeks they now have a downy peach fuzz covering their nakedness.

And Joy--I hug and cuddle them constantly--except for the Little Brown Pup, Donnan--he's hard to catch and thinks I'm a chew toy!

Joan, this article broke my heart. It is hard to fathom that human beings can treat animals this way. Such a relief to know how well these sweet dogs are coming along now, under your care. I'll pass on the link to everyone I know, and plead for people to send donations. You are a true angel, Joan! Renie

Hi Joan,
I saw your article and I am crying and praying that the laws change in the U.S. Thank you for being there and for taking in the ones that would of been euthanized if at a shelter.
I hope they are doing OK. WOW, you are a total angel and I love you.
Thank you for sharing with me, and it makes me want to do more. I love my kids, and it is hard to do all I want to with my dogs and fosters and rescues.
Give those little ones hugs and I will send love to you and I hope you all feel it. I truly believe that that man will suffer - God will not allow that I am sure and I hope he suffers from what he did to those poor dogs.
Love,
Karen Hertel in Sagle, ID

» Red - inhumanity...

Joan,

This is a great article to remind us that we are responsible to report abused animals to the proper authorities.

Not long ago, the authorities here raided a puppy mill. There were many different breeds of dogs in the same condition as the dogs in the photos on your article. I'm happy to say that these people were found guilty of animal endangerment and are now serving time in prison. I hope these same laws can be adopted in the US.

Not being able to read or write English is no excuse for animal abuse. The people who treat animals this way should be tarred and feathered.

Joan,
As always you amaze me in your efforts to help this breed, and others. Your an outstanding example of a Companion Animal Rescue Hero! If everyone would only do a portion of what you accomplish, I believe more companion animals would have a better chance of a quality life. May your message reach those that need to hear it!

This is just appalling, but not surprising. Animals are the first to suffer and there is no excuse for the owner's inability to speak/understand English. He knew enough to spray the dogs with weedkiller, didn't he? Rural areas are the worst. I have rescued several dogs who'd been starved, beaten, you name it, and they have all been perfect pets. If that man who owned the Pyrnees had been put in a shelter, bet no one would have wanted to adopt him! I've known only one Great Pyrenees dog, and she was so sweet and angelic. The treatment of those three dogs just makes me ill.

I worked in an animal hospital for 4 years and now work for Animal Control. I came home early crying the other day and then spent my afternoon reading and crying more and more about these rescues. My heart and open arms go out to you and a big thank you for what you have done. This job is making me bitter towards people and it helps to know by reading your story that there is people out there that care. From what I read you took many extra steps for these babies.

» AnneWatkins - I agree...

I agree with the others. The inability to read/speak English has nothing to do with abusing those dogs. My heart goes out to mistreated animals everywhere, and my gratitude to those willing to help.
