<< I used the Oster A5 single speed clippers. I bought the 2 speed only to find that I never used the faster speed. Oster makes reliable clippers, and I would suggest mail ordering rather than buying at a store as you save 20 bucks or more. Try neserum.com and cherrybrook.com #10 blade is the standard blade to use.

I ditto Meaghan's choice. I have used OsterA-5 forever. Sunbeam and Andis offer good ones too and bit less expensiveve. For a cocker you will need not only the #10 blade they come with but I would recommend a #7F and #15 too

» med1029 - Airedale Terrier Clippers?

What type of clippers should I purchase for Two Airedales? We have bought clippers in the past to have them only break.

Thanks,

Jason

I have a 14lb. Shih Tzu and do my own grooming. Since he is no longer a puppy I find it hard to get my clippers to cut his coat. What brand and blade would work best for a Shih Tzu?

Hi Jason,
Aridales require a heavy duty clipper like Oster Animal clippers A-5 Golden 2 speed. There are many similar brands, all of which cost over $100.00. Anything cheap is a waste of money. Pick up a 7F blade and 4 skip tooth would be useful too. Most come with a #10 blade for close trimming.
Good luck

It may be that your blades just need sharpening. I like and have used Oster A5 Golden brand It depends on the length you like to keep your dog in as to which blades are best. I would suggest a #4F for a short but fluffy all over clip.

There are a number of finishing blades you could use on your Lhasa, depending on the length of coat you would like to leave on.

I normally will use a #4F oster or andis blade to leave a short but fluffy clip all over the body. It the dog has mats that the #4F won't get under with out pulling and risking a kick then try a #5F or even a #7F. Just remember the higher the number of the blade, the closer the clip.

Hope this helps,

» dwt59 - what kind of clippers?

I have just adopted a collie. His hair is very matted and needs to be clipped. I tried using some clippers from a department store. His hair is so matted and thick it wont cut. Is there any clippers I can get that would cut it? What size blade should I use?

Oster A-5, or Andis or Sunbeam all make great professional clippers but unless you plan on doing your dog all the time at home it would be cheaper to send him to a groomer. All clippers come with a standard #10 blade but I would purchase a #7F as well. It is a good clip-down blade and will fit all the clippers as they have detachable blades.
