how do you decorate your grooming salon? Have you used salvaged items, did you buy new, or do you go with the modern, no-frills look?

You had a decorating budget at your store? I must have missed that memo. LOL
When we opened our store here in Philly the grooming department was nothing but drab white. So I brought in some old copies of Dog Fancy Mag and had one of the girls cut out the centerfold pix. I got a roll of colored paper and made a boarder along the ceiling then stapled the pix all around the room. It sure brightened the place up and it gave the customers more insentive to have a few extras done for their dogs. I also brought in three old doors (the kind with slats like shutters) I spray painted them a mauve color and attached them together with hinges. We used it for magazines and christmas cards or thank you cards our customers sent. It was great because it could be used as a screen when you have a skittish dog, a room divider for when dogs didn't get along or just a display rack. You could fold it up to get it out of the way or store it if you had to. I have one at the house too to divid my computer area from the living room and it's great for christmas cards...

Hey there Pat! I really like your screen/dor idea. I've been wanting to do something like that for awhile, haven't gotten to it yet...LOL

I don't have a decorating budget per se, I just can't stop myself from decorating. I am a Goodwill Shopping Addict. It's insane, realy. SO stuff around me just ends up being decorated.

Your store sounds nice. Tell me more about it! smile

Actually, I opened two stores in Philly. What a job! I never knew there was so much work involved in setting up a new store, but it was a big help in learning about product. I started out as Speciality Manager then when we lost of front end guy I kind of took over both spots. Friday night closing was the best cause I used to bring Blu in with me. I think he liked working even more than I did. Although he did get a pigs ear at the end of the night so I'm not sure if it was being with me or the pigs ear he liked best... LOL I had a great crew, they all loved Blu. When the groomers weren't busy they'd beg me to let them brush him out. Being a show dog he loved getting up on the table and showing off. Great advertising, if you know what I mean. All the employees loved him too and I never had to worry about thieft when we stood around the front door. He was so well trained that people naturally thought better than to try anything once they saw him. Even after I left to company I was told people would ask about the lady with the big black dog. smile I miss working there, but without Blu it's just not the same.

I like your story about Blu! Sorry to be so long getting back to you. I have been living on the road in my motorhome and have not had any regular internet access...
