Ears to You!Read the article this discussion is about
This archived discussion is "read only". « Previous 1 2 Next » -- posted by deborahjm » newshound87 - Re: Re: Re: Re: Ears! Help!I am thoroughly confused. After years of dog owning and dog breeding we decided a Doberman was the right dog to join our now dog-less family. We did all the research and went to dog shows and talked to breeders. No one had a bad thing to say about ear-cropping (I love the look) except that it was a chore. We bought a beautiful red Dobie in December and started lookiung for a vet to do the cropping when the time comes as our small town vet does not do it. You would have thought we were suggesting removing limbs from the dog. Five vets outright refused, saying it was cruel and inhumane and two others said they did not want a client who would inflict such pain on their pets. Should I or shouldn't I? Are the vets right? Glenda -- posted by newshound87 » jayne72 - ears croppong i have a miniature pincher, pitbull, and recently got a great dane. when i got my first two dogs the ears were already cropped no one ever said anything to me about the cruelty of cropping then. until i got my great dane with his ears unaltered and i decided to go to a vet and have the procedure done. i am a dog groomer and my dog comes to work everyday and the second people saw duke happily walking beside me with his ears taped people start making rude comments and preaching to me. people make comments on my way to my car leaving work. well i think that it's a dog owners decision i do not force opinions onto others if you think it is wrong fine don't crop your dogs ears if are pro ear cropping then crop your dogs ears. either way people should relax and let people live their lives in peace and stop this nonsense of this unnecessary debate. My own vet is against ear cropping he hates it why does he do it? because if he didn't do people would still get it done it just would be done by a hacker in for the money and not for the dogs well being. whew i needed to vent. thank you for reading my ramblings.humble groomer jayne -- posted by jayne72 » Trigon - Re: Ears Cropping ? I would like to tell you somethin, why dog is cropped ? it is tendency to a cosmeticpoints, it is good for me but there is another way without crop it, use some glue and plastic holder put to its ear about 2 - 4 weeks when the dog is about 3 months and 2 weeks.you will see its more beautiful, like a hyaena or wild dogs in africa, I have one Pitbull and I did pricked its ear with glue and after 1 month.... I open it clean it and after its hair full again, the dog look so nice and better than the cropped one, want to know email me to= trigon59@yahoo.com Thanks, and do not fight just talking about cropping ! Recently one of his ears has started to stick up and to the side, almost covering his left eye. It looks horrible and I'm hoping someone can tell me what to do about it. I asked the vet and he told me to ask a breeder. He said that since he doesn't perform cropping he doesn't know what to do about it. What a great answer! If anyone out there has any experience with a situation like this please let me know. -- posted by JF78 » FlyinLow - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Ears! Did you check with your local Doberman rescue before you "bought" your dog? There are so many great pure and mixed breed dogs out there at rescues and shelters, but the same people who want to crop and dock are the same people who keep irresponsible breeders in business just to get their "perfect" puppy at the "perfect" age... -- posted by FlyinLow » vickijae - Re: Re: Ears Cropping ? One of my schnauzers has a flyaway ear and I would like to glue it down until the cartilage strengthens. I really didn't know the reason for the crop but did it because everyone said to do it. Had I known the ordeal and pain my puppy would go through from this procedure, I would never have done it. The stitches all the way up both ears and taped. It had to hurt a lot!. My next dobbie will have floppy ears and I would love her just the same. -- posted by Tayls » kstuhmer - Re: Re: Re: Re: Ears! 16 weeks is a little old to be cropping your pups ears. Have you ever had stiches? They are not that bad. Do you realize your pups tail was docked without any pain killer????Also their dewclaws removed. Dogs, especially, dobes are tougher than you think. But, 16 weeks is a little old. It will probably take a long time for your pups ears to stand up.-- posted by kstuhmer « Previous 1 2 Next » Please follow the guidelines set forth in the Suite101 Posting Etiquette when adding to the discussion. |
