» Skull13 - The ADA, access, parking, discrimination...where are we really? I think we need to forget disease specifics and unite as a community. I know this is a pipe dream because within each disease there is conflict and in-fighting. I am a Fibromite, a person with Fibromyalgia. We can't even agree amongst ourselves and our so-called "cousins" with CFS, CFIDS, ME, and the like. The same thing happens within other groups and organizations. We will never get anywhere if we can't rise above our petty differences and work together for common goals. For one thing, we waste too much time worrying about perceived discrimination and slights. This distracts us from more pressing issues and concerns. Is it more important to be represented in a positive way on "Survivor" or to be able to have Social Security Disability Reform so we don't have to have it take 3 to 4 years and go to court to get our rightful benefits? Is it more important to argue over how FDR is represented in a memorial or to make sure that all Federal properties are accessable to ALL of us? -- posted by Skull13 » cmac29ca - Re: The ADA, access, parking, discrimination...where are we real In response to message posted by Skull13:
I would love to see unity in the disabled community here in Canada too. Seems though we have the same sort of disability/ disease specific in-fighting that you mention above. Good to see that others see this narrow self-absorbed way of dealing with disability issues as problematic for progress of disability rights and access. Hoping more disabled people see that a united effort is needed. Cat -- posted by cmac29ca
