» ______MarcellaGM - Go Get em! Great article, Michelle. It really shows we need to be active in 'what's going on' in our communities and work to make changes.-- posted by ______MarcellaGM » ______MarcellaGM - For The Handicap Several chain super markets have motorized handicap chairs with baskets for shopping. So many times I have wanted to use them. Instead I moaned and groaned around the store and then would have to collapse on a bench. I was even tempted to climb into the shopping basket so I could get off my feet. The thing is I am only fifty six and I look young for my age and healthy as a horse. I have to get over feeling embaressed about using handicap parking and other handicap facilities.-- posted by ______MarcellaGM » TvBabe - Something you should read :) Marcella I think you should read one of the first articles I wrote for Suite101 entitled "Hidden Disabilities: We are NOT Lazy".It's not just us accepting our limitations but other's accepting them as well, a joint venture so to speak We need to learn to accept our lifestyles but we also need the tools to do so -- posted by TvBabe » Othello - Patience...... Parking places, unfortunately my problems are more IN the store than outside. In the store, they believe in moving merchandise around every couple of weeks. One week the item is on the bottom shelf, the next time it's up on top where I cannot begin to reach it. And try to find a clerk? Count on another 20 minutes for that.....and then to have the clerk tell you he doesn't know anything. And then....they seem to run out of that item about every 3rd day and tell you to come back tomorrow. A disabled person can't just run to the store everyday. Then, I ask a clerk to reach a specified brand for me and they look at all the other brands hoping that he'll find my brand mixed in there somewhere. Oh yeah, the store is almost empty when I go in but 20 minutes later, there is a long lineup at the checkout and the other checkout people have just gone to take their break. And then store management must not like wide aisles. This store has wide aisles but they have the aisles filled with displays. And....supposedly there are two days they do stocking of shelves, which turns out to be everyday. Instead of a pile of boxes waiting to be stocked....boxes are spread all over the aisle and no one around. Is it any wonder I hate grocery shopping? -- posted by Othello » TvBabe - hmmmm I can't offer any suggestions on the stock movement in stores Wanda but as far as stores placing stock in the aisles I have had success contacting the local fire departmentSeems they frown on stock being stored in aisles due to fire regulations in my region, you might try giving them a call in your area and see if they have the same or similiar regulations you can use to make these stores listen -- posted by TvBabe » mickeymouse2 - Re: Patience......
