» biogardener - Need for Compression Does this software include the ability to compress images. That is the one thing which most images posted on the web are in need of having done, especially photos taken with a digital camera. The images which I post on the web are between 2 and 14 KB, compressed from the original 600 or so original KB. I compress mine in PhotoShop, but most of my web friends do not want to go to the expense of buying that software.I am looking to recommend some free or cheap software which will compress images to get the ready for posting on the web. Does the free Google software qualify? -- posted by biogardener » KarinRex - Re: Need for Compression In response to Need for Compression posted by biogardener:Interesting question, and the answer probably depends on how your friends will use their compressed pictures. For example Picasa automatically resizes (and therefore compresses) pictures when you e-mail them. In the Output Options you can specify a default size for sending pictures by dragging the resize slider to change the default size for each option. Choosing a smaller size when sending multiple pictures will result in lower quality picture, but a faster download for your recipients. There is also an Export option that allows you to control the size of the exported JPEG. That said, I don't think this is what you were after. What I suggest is that you visit Tucows multimedia software page ( http://www.tucows.com/mmedia.html ) and look through their list of Image tools. I am sure you will find an inexpensive program that can compress photographs to the degree you wish. And when you DO find the right program -- it would be great if you could come back to this board and let us know what you picked and why. Thanks! -- posted by KarinRex
