Thanks for taking on this difficult to explain subject. It is good for the science and research in the field to be brought out since some people want to regard DID and PSTD as false or fake. It is also helpful to have an explanation for those who have experienced it. I appreciate the good job you are doing writing on this topic.

In response to Thanks posted by bonfmcc:

Hello there!
Thank you for your kind encouragement. My earnest hope is that this kind of information is affirming and helpful for survivors, as well as informative for the helpers and professionals who come alongside them. There is a reason for the types of reactions survivors have to what (for most people) are apparently "commonplace" things. Whether those who have not experienced abuse understand it or not, those who are triggered by such things are merely responding to some sort of external cue, conscious or not - naturally! (Why wouldn't anyone do the same??)

I hope, too, that these articles will give survivors the credibility they need when they visit their doctors or other health care professionals who are trying to help them sort through their PTSD symptoms (which commonly accompany DID). The process is difficult enough without having to figure these things out oneself or wonder if we are alone in experiencing them.

Again, these are NORMAL reactions to ABNORMAL assaults upon the body, mind, spirit, being! As always, I invite questions, comments, and any clarifications or help I can give in any way. We are all learning and growing, including the researchers, about how the mind processes the effects/afteraffects of abuse, and of course, the articles I write here only scratch the surface. I pray they are helpful and bring hope and healing.

Blessings,
kj

This is a great article. It helps a lot to understand how these reactions work.

Thank you for the information on the subject. I am a readjustment counseling therapist in Phoenix and the large numbers of combat veterans returning with ptsd and bdi are astounding. There is not enough support for the numbers of veterans female and male returning from Iraq who need assistance, financially, emotionally and psychologically for what they are facing overseas.
