» phoehne - Terrorism in novels

Have any of you read the Tom Clancy novel where the airline pilot hijacks an airliner and crashes it into the capital building in Washington, DC? That book has been on my mind all day. When I hear Peter Jennings say this senerio is so extremely rare I wonder if the terrorists read Tom Clancy.

I would hope and pray that the senerios in his other novels do not come to pass.

» Godspoet - Child Abuse in a Christian home.

I grew up in a Christian home and was abused physically and verbally by my father, a Christian Ordained Minister/Pastor and Executive Officer. The worst beating I received was when I was in 5th grade and when I supposedly got left back. I couldn't understand it because I was the smartest kid in my class. But I had issues with my father and he considered me a rebel, and always said so. I found out that he had spoken to the Principal of my Public School and told him to leave me back and to assign me to the meanest, strictest teacher around, Mr. Edwards, a tall neatly dressed black man. I got a baldy haircut, not good during my time (1962), and remained in the house all summer long doing house chores and school work, and worst of all, the beating of my life. My father was accustomed to whipping me with his thick, black belt. My father tied me up to his bedroom door hinges by my hands and proceeded to whip me with a television wire until my legs bled. My mother eventually busted the door down and saved me from further lashes. He never asked me for forgiveness nor told me he was sorry or anything but has continued his verbal abuse through my teenage and adult years. First by word of mouth and presently by letters.
I am looking for a publisher to tell my tale which I have already started. I have also written about 40 poems relating to the same topic, child abuse. Through this Website I have discovered many other cases, of adults who were victimized as children to child abuse, whether sexual, physical, verbal or/and emotional. The problem started when I started having nightmares and the beating I received as a child came back to life. Kind of like getting whipped again while I slept. These nightmares of beatings my father and gangs gave me prompted me to write my nonfiction book about child abuse in a christian home by my father, an ordained christian minister and executive officer of his christian organization. Many of the articles I have read about child abuse have helped me to deal with my own personal demons. With God's help I will be able to put my past behind me and continue with my future. I cannot change my past but my future can take a positive note.
Feel free to communicate with me concerning this topic. God bless us all and everyone.

In response to message posted by Godspoet:

I'm sorry you have had such a difficult life. I too have had some problems in my life when I was younger. I know that you cannot change the past, but you can take a positive attitude about the future. I've been working on a book called, "Giving Up or Pressing Onward." It is about the difficult times I've had and how I haven't given up.

I've always wanted to write and have things published. I started with Suite101 in Nov., 1998. I'm now, Contributing Editor, Managing Editor, Copy Editor, Newsletter Columnist, and Writing and Publishing Community Manager. My opinion of myself has improved because my goals in life are finally being met.

Are you a Contributing Editor with Suite101? If not, are you interested in becoming one? All you have to do is click on "Become An Editor" and follow the steps.

Good luck in your future. Feel free to e-mail me at christy_parker@suite101.com.

Janet,

Sounds wonderfully spooky as well as enigmatic--a good read for a stormy night!
