Hi, Robert. I Just wanted to say that I linked this piece as "recommended reading" in mine.
Calendars

I really enjoyed your article!!! It poses some fascinating questions. It seems as if that future hybrid calendar (Earth occasions/Mars occasions) would be complicated to keep up with at first though.

Bookmarking your topic. :-)

Hello! Thanks for the recommendation. I agree, the calendar issues are liable to be hairy to work out and to keep up with. Of course, at first there will be more pressing issues--like breathable air!--but dates and holidays will be just as ubiquitous, and will have to be figured out eventually.

There is another possibility, actually. Since the Martian day is only about a half-hour longer than the Earth day, a pure Martian calendar and a pure Earth calendar could be kept side-by-side and the days checked off simultaneously. Every several weeks you'd have to correct by crossing off an extra Earth day, but that wouldn't be any great burden, and it might be easier than trying to completely merge the two calendars.

You're welcome. :-)

Yes, breathable air would be a priority. lol The two-calendar idea does sound better. The way you describe it in the post makes the system of keeping up with them not seem that complicated at all.
