Though pachysandra does have its advantages, it is not necessarily one of my favorite groundcovers. More about what might make my top ten list of favorite groundcovers in some future articles. Meanwhile, what is your favorite or least favorite groundcover? I know this varies from country to country, region to region, climate to climate...that is why I am asking? Georgene -- posted by Georgene A. Bramlage » orohorizon - ground cover I have found a wonderful little flower growing in the pasture. It is a five petal, bright pink with a white center on each petal that has a yellow "strip" through the white -just into the pink-and is just gorgeous at about an 1 1/2". The stem has simple, opposite leafs about an inch apart. They seem to grow no taller than 4" and only in small gatherings of 3-5 plants in an area. I wish I could find their name, but alas my search has been futile. Can I post a picture? I hope someone out there can help. Thanks for reading, Melitta (aka orohorizon) -- posted by orohorizon

Melitta, You may post a picture if you have an internet page of your own where you post the picture (like an earthlink or AOL personal page) and then you can link suite101 to it. Or you can just e-mail your picture to me (cercis@suite101.com) as an attachment and I can post it in the discussion here for you. It does sound like "Spring Beauty" Claytonia Virginiana to me...check my link and check out some others by using the search engines. And then let us know. G -- posted by Georgene A. Bramlage » Kirk_Johnson - Groundcovers In response to Pachysandra, Anyone? posted by Cercis:I hate ajuga. I don't have it in my garden, but it is in some gardens where I work. It never fills in enough to choke out weeds. From my point of view it is too invasive to be a garden perennial, but it is a lousy groundcover. English ivy loves the Oregon coast, so it is way too invasive here. My favorite groundcover is winter flowering heath. It is the one plant that I can rely on to bloom all winter and it covers the ground without being invasive. -- posted by Kirk_Johnson
