» Sunbear - Depression Types

Hi Mari,

Thanks for distinguishing among these types for us laymen(women). Well-written article by the way.

Hope you are doing ok and coping with your situation. Do think about you and hope you are finding some joy in life.

Tom

Yes, a great article with much needed information for individuals and family members. I remember my psychiatric nursing stint at the S.C. State Hospital and will never forget this one twenty-something year old who thought she was Jesus. She was kept in a padded room for injury prevention. I believe she was a post-partum depressive. Very sad to actually observe conditions of this sort. After all of these many years, I can still see her face screaming out that she was Jesus.

Thanks, Tom. I'm glad the article "reads" okay - I thought it might be too didactic.

As for my personal life, there is a ray of light at last - my son and I are going on a cruise (the first for both of us) next week. I am eagerly looking forward to it!

I can see why this young woman made such an impression upon you. Postpartum depression is sometimes considered an indicator of bipolar disorder, and it sounds like she segued into a manic episode.

Thank you, Dubh Sidhe, for stopping by and taking the time to comment.

As Tom said, the article is very well written and clear. I find SAD interesting in that I wonder if it really would be a disorder if we could take the liberty of hibernating like the animals.

I suppose by now you have gone and returned from your cruise. I hope you had a great time and came back refreshed! Maybe you can tell us about it in another article.

Hi, Joy -

I've often wondered the same thing about SAD and hibernation! It's nice to know that someone else has made the same sort of connection.

Yes, I've returned from the cruise. It was great fun, and I highly recommend traveling via cruise ship whenever possible!
