Thanks for your article.

There was for me a curious feeling of relief that came along with the knowledge that many creative and visionary people knit meaningful lives and work.

For a while I thought that perhaps there was a brilliant work in me - as if depression were a doorway into the creative, visionary world.

More recently, I've come to believe that depression is just another strand of yarn - if you will - that gets knitted in with existing creativity and vision. Together, the existing yarns and the depressed one can combine to make an extraordinary work of art or something ordinary or a big old mess. At different points in my life I’ve been all three and I have come to the conclusion that depression is part of me … one of many … it’s just more unruly than the rest.

I hope god does have a twisted sense of humor … somehow that thought makes it easier to accept.
