SSRI, Serzone drug therapy
This archived discussion is "read only".
» PaulusWeller - Effectiveness and side affects of SSRI and Serzone drug therapy I recently have become deeply depressed for the first time in my life and I decided to seek medical help. The doctor that I met with suggested that I start SSRI drug therapy (Celexa, citalopram). I'm very concerned about possible side affects, particularly sexual affects, and also withdrawal problems upon discontinuation. I've done some research and found that Serzone is a possible alternative to SSRIs with less sexual side affects, but that it has problems of its own and can be a rough ride initally. I would appreciate any comments from anyone, male or female, on this subject. Thanks in advance.Paul -- posted by PaulusWeller » spinlily - I hope I can be of help. I've been taking Serzone for about three years.I've never had any awful problems. I have a friend taking Paxil, and she's having constant nausea and other physical side effects -- I've been free of all that, and I haven't noticed any libido change. The main problem I encountered was that when I reached a certain dose level I felt a little "pushed" or driven, but that goes away if I lower the dose. I've had to go up and down on the dose a few times for some reason, but my doctor is not disturbed by that at all. It's quite difficult to find the right dose of any antidepressant. You need to work with a doctor - hopefully a specialist in these medications - to work out your own dosage. On the whole, I feel better, and I'm getting a lot more creative work done. It's definitely worth it. -- posted by spinlily » mcman - Celexa PaulCelexa probably has the least side effects of the SSRIs. As for sexual side effects, there's two sides of the coin here. A slight dampening in your sexual drive may prevent premature ejaculation and thus considerably enhance your performance. Of course, we are all different. If you are already on the drug, I suggest at least giving it a chance. If it doesn't work out, then by all means consider another drug. Hope this helps. -- posted by mcman
