» frazzledgranny - Depression and Anxiety Liked the article. You did not list the different signs for children tho, and also I think that anxiety and depression often show up together, which can mask symptoms, Have you written anything on that subject? -- posted by frazzledgranny » IMADAG2 - Re: Depression and Anxiety In response to Depression and Anxiety posted by frazzledgranny:Thanks Kathy. As you did indicate, your article does not list all the symptoms so probably needs to be read in context with your other articles. But it does give a good reminder to increase our awareness of what friends and family may be going through by keeping up with them even if they are sad and unsociable. That they are feeling safe and OK. Emotions are affected too...loss of confidence, feeling guilty when not at fault, being agitated etc can all be part of the (less obvious) depression package. For example, if one lives alone what efforts do we make to see if they are eating properly? From the full list..4 of the 10 symptoms indicates mild depression whereas up to 8-10 symptoms over the last 2 weeks indicates severe depression...to the skilled observer. I don't think children really have different symptoms per se but may act them out differently. But then, generalising about what a frustrated child or frustrated adult do differently, is risky. Kathy...maybe you could add this online manual to your links page and try to encourage its first aid course to all. It covers mental health first aid and best practice in therapies and self help: Jeff -- posted by IMADAG2
