In response to message posted by the_gurkha:No, I would still oppose capital punishment even if the legal system was perfect; the morality of state killing is still an issue for me. However, I would probably be dedicating my time and energy to other things... -- posted by wayoutinleft » Kirk_Johnson - Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Welcome aboard, Glenn. In response to message posted by efcblue:I was teasing you a bit, but the idea of executing defective human beings reminds me of the Nazis. -- posted by Kirk_Johnson » jazzmann - Re: Death to Pedophiles In response to message posted by grandmasue:I`m presuming this discussion is only covering the U S so, as a Brit ,to widen the discussion a little bit how about this. Death to peodophiles would reduce the population of south Africa by quite a lot . Why you ask ? simple answer really,There is a widespread belief there, that sex with a child preferably under the age of 5 years means the perpetrator will not catch aids. -- posted by jazzmann » jazzmann - Re: What if we make a mistake? In response to message posted by jcredmond:With the advent of d n a the chances of getting it wrong are now pretty miniscule. In this country there is no death penalty ,which is against the views of 80% of the population ,bearing in mind this view has been steadily consistant for 20 + years. At this moment there is a trial locally of 4 teenagers for the murder of a 14 year old .This boy had over 200 bruises all over his body, boiling water and sugar poured over him,and strangled ,his body was then dismembered into several pieces, and put into plastic refuse sacks to be distributed all over his local town. -- posted by jazzmann » biogardener - Leap into uncertainty Whenever I see a new name in a discussion, I check the profile. You mention that you took the leap into uncertainty and quit your regular job to pursue your dream of being a free-lance writer. I am glad that you did not have a family, because I have seen too many families suffer when the bread-winner made the same move.I have countless friends, though, who started to pursue their dream full-time after retirement, and that seems to work best for most families. I myself was privileged to be following my dream as an educator, but I was robbed of it by a drunken driver who put an end to my career long before retirement age. I now spend much of my time in writing and in the visual arts. Even though that wasn't my choice, I am making the most of it. I might as well enjoy what I have than mourn what I have lost. -- posted by biogardener » wayoutinleft - Re: Leap into uncertainty In response to message posted by biogardener:Quite a few friends believe I'm actually retired, but little do they know...Just because I don't have a paycheck every other Friday doesn't mean I'm not working.
