» Berta - Jeff and Jackie's daylilies You didn't say much about cultivation except that they must use pesticides because they work. WHAT? Why are we not growing everything organically when it is so easy, is best for the earth, and is much cheaper? I have never had problems with pests of any kind on my perennials that were pervasive. I grow a good diverse collection of perennials and annuals and bring in a abundance of beneficials that seem to take care of any and all pests and diseases. Actually, I am in Z5 and have never seen any thing attack daylilies. Now, are we talking about using Roundup for weed control? Now that's just laziness. SHAME ON YOU. The stuff you use to kill never just kills the stuff you put it on. Remember that.-- posted by Berta » techwrit - Pesticides I agree with you, but remember when you monoculture the pests do seem to munch down.I don't have any problems either because I grow so many other plants that I hope the pests are confused, especially when I use hot pepper spray! Thanks for your comment. Jeff works another full time job. With the size of their spread, it would be difficult to garden organically. -- posted by techwrit » Carol Wallace - Speaking of pests I have a huge variety of plants and I have always gardened organically. But right now many of my daylilies look dreadful, with brown, wilting foliage - I'm afraid its thrips but have no idea what to do about it. They bloomed fabulously this year then suddenly they started looking sick.-- posted by Carol Wallace
