Can anyone help me locate places I can go to directly in my area that has only daylilies that I can purchase? I live in the Philadephia area, both New Jersey and Delaware are minutes away. I would appreciate any information. You can e-mail me at Kathy4609@erols.com.

Kathey, you're really not that far from Doylestown, PA - I would strongly recommend Arthur Kroll's Stover Mills garden there you can find the address and phone number and maybe even a catalog for a sneak preview here: http://www.gardeneureka.com/

He has literally acres of plants, sells huge clumps of excellent quality daylilies - I highly recommend him.

Joanne - are these bare root, or in pots? I would say it is quite safe to plant bare root ones now; the potted ones should also be fine but if they have been indoors you will want to harden them off first. Do you know your climate zone? With that I could give you a much more positive answer.

I got this message from the email robin for daylilies. smile

Hi Ellen,
David Hansen here, Bellevue, NE, right south of Omaha. There are a couple
of places to get daylilies in this area. The two that I know of here in
Nebraska are: Gail Korn at Wayne, NE and Jim Bernt at Columbus, NE. They
are both about two hours away from Omaha. Gail is in the Robin, so you
could contact her via that means and Jim's email address is jbernt@nppd.com.
Gail has a commercial perrenial sales garden and Jim just sells from yis
home garden. There are several in eastern Iowa also, but that would be
further. If you want the names of those you can email back. The big one is
Lynn and Barry Stoll's Walnut Hill Garden. Their email is
walnuthl@netins.net.

David Hansen

Ellen,
I live in Omaha, Nebraska and daylilies grow well here. My garden is a
brand new AHS display garden this spring; I would be willing to divide and
sell some of my daylilies.
Gail Korn has a beautiful commercial daylily and perennial nursery,
Garden Perennials, in Wayne Nebraska (almost two hours driving time north of
Omaha). Named daylily varieties of all types and sizes grow well there, and
she has several lovely beds of daylilies artistically mixed with companion
perennials that are also sold at her nursery. She is a member of our e-mail
robin. Barry and Lynn Stoll's commercial daylily nursery, Walnut Hill
Gardens, is in Atalissa Iowa and a must see. They have about 2000 named
varieties of daylilies, an extensive hosta collection, and lots of types of
ornamental grasses. Their nursery is about 5 hours east of Omaha on
Interstate 80. Lynn Stoll is also a member of our e-mail robin. Both Gail
and the Stolls will send you a catalog if you request it. Gail's catalog is
$1.00 (deductible on the first order) and the Stoll's catalog is $2.00. I
currently don't have a price list but grow about 325 named daylilies of all
types except polytepals. Because I hybridize, many of them are newer
varieties but I also grow some of the older classics.
Gail's e-mail address is gkorn@bloomnet.com and the Stoll's e-mail
address is walnuthl@netins.net . The Stoll's garden will be featured the
weekend of July 17th during the Region One convention in Iowa City, Iowa.

Hope this helps.

Ellen

» firsttime - Rouge and Lace (Kaskel 1997)

I purchased R & L in the fall of 1999. It first bloomed for me (Houston, TX) on February 11, 2000. I went from two fans to 5-6 in less that one year. This cultivar just keeps on amazing me, and my best friend (Geri) who passed the daylily bug on to me. Today is September 13th, 2000 and this plant is still blooming, and is also now just sending out another scape! Most of my daylilies here in Houston have done very well, from hard dormants to evergreens. But this one in particular is just breathtaking and beyond words!
