» Daffyclay - New Zealand Daffodil List

Now here is a winning list for you.

A must have New Zealand daffodil list, supplied by on of the best in New Zealand. There are a lot of outstanding daffodil breeders and growers in New Zealand, John Hunter is one of them.

A couple of questions. Do you grow New Zealand daffodils. And, if you do, what is your favorite.

If you don't grow New Zealand bred, and would like to find resources for New Zealand bred daffodils, post a message here, and I'll see if we can get you some help.

» Daffyclay - Helen's color codes.

Helen,

Feel free to drop in any time.

The 2W-YYO, 2W-W, 3W-YYR, 3W-WWO etc., that you asked about is the daffodil classification and color coding system. There are 13 divisions or classifications of daffodils, numbered 1 to 13,

therefore, taking the first one above - the 2W-YY0 means that the daffodil is a divison 2 large cupped daffodil. The W means the petals are white, and the -YYO meanse that the cup is two parts Yellow, and one part Orange, or an orange ring on the cup. The daffodil can have up to three colors on the petals and another three on the cup.

The 2W-W means that the daffodil is a division 2 large cupped daffodil, with white petals and white cups.

The 3W-YYR, 3W-WWO means the same thing, these two daffodils are divison 3 short cupped daffodils, both with white petals, one with a yellow cup with a red rim, and the other a white cup with an Orange rim.

The International Daffodil Society and Daffodil Classification from the RHS may help understand this.

The Daffodil Society of Great Britian may also help.
