» Gary - stuff and jam

Hi Clay et al,

this season we have five pots we are about to stuff and jam full of Daffodils.

Buy them wholesale, then toss them after flowering; joy of growing beats a bunch of cut flowers :-)))

cheers,

» Daffyclay - Refrigeration

A dark secret of mine is that I have a full size "Floral" refrigerator. It keeps a constant 38 to 40 degree "F". I'm loading it with bulbs to start an early chil cycle, such that when I plant them about 6 weeks from now, they will have an early start for next spring, and will give me "super" early daffodils. Our National show is late March next year, about 2 or 3 weeks before my "normal" peak bloom period. Don't know if it will work, but we will see.

Also, I'm also putting a few pots in there that I'm going to try forcing for early spring. Never tried that before, but with my moving this fall, etc., I'm trying to get an "edge" for next spring.

Hi Clay,

You have given me fridge envy :-))

» Daffyclay - Actually

The frigerator in question is like the ones you find here in America at the Grocery Stores that stock flowers. It's a two door model with sliding doors, that you reach in. It's large, about eight feet across, with three shelves that are spaced high enough that you can put flowers in without the flowers hitting the roof above it.

A friendly florist that was going out of business made the ultimate scrafice so that I could have a flower refrigerator.

» Cottage_Garden - Some people

Some people just have all the luck!

Sounds like a great set-up. I hope you keep it in the garage and not in the kitchen. Some people don't appreciate all that potting soil in with the food. (I discovered this the hard way -- also blasted all the bulbs because they were in there with apples.)

LOL

» Daffyclay - Not in the Kitchen

Barbara,

My son-in-law took one look at the refrigerator and asked, "how much beer will it hold." To him it is a party refrigerator, which may not be a bad idea for beer and soft drinks during a nice summer picnic out back of the house.

The refrigerator is in the garage, generates a lot of heat and keeps the garage warm (55-60 "F") in the winter, except for extreme cold spells..
