Hi Becky,
That gives you about 5 months of daffodils! Who says daffodils have a short season of bloom? :-)

Well,

Mary Lou...I'm going to chime in here on 3 June to say that "Sundisc"and "Hawera" have just finished. The foliage on "Ice Follies" is almost to the point where I can easily pull it from the ground.

It seems to me that you could find a daffodil in bloom somewhere in the world every month of the year--without resorting to forcing. Not long ago, someone from the Southern Hemisphere posted on Daffnet that the first of his winter-blooming bulbocodium hybrids had opened. Who's up for an "around the world" daffodil tour? smile

And how would we start one?

An "around the wrold" daffodil tour would be interesting as well as educational (at least for me).

Hi Lyn,
Where do you live, Tasmania, the Aussie mainland, or New Zealand? (I'm guessing mainland Australia where it's pretty warm.) I've posted a photo of 'Fyno' here:
http://www.suite101.com/files/topics/508...
so others can see what Lyn has blooming. Can you tell us a bit about your climate and whether the bulbs are grown in the open or protected areas? When I grew 'Fyno', I had to give it winter protection.

Hi Mary Lou and all,I live in Canberra, the National Capital, mainland Aus inland from Sydney. All my Daffs are grown out in the open,no protection,we have long hot dry summers and frosty winters though nothing like what many of you experience, winter night time temps can be down to around-9C but most nights are more likely to be -3 to 5C from June to September, days about 10 to 12 C.The early flowering bulbicodiums are a joy at this time of year,a taste of what is to come in spring.
We are fortunate here in that we can grow the lovely mini's from Glenbrook and Keira for instance without the problems of turning them around,
Lyn

Hi Lyn,
Glenbrook's bulbs have been making their way to the U.S. for quite a few years, and recently those from Keira are beginning to arrive. It's the turning around that gets to me! I do better with the bigger bulbs, but I seem to have trouble with the minis. I think mostly I over water the pots.

Hi Mary Lou & Lyn...

Nice to hear from Lyn. I suppose being closer than most of us to Equator, you really don't have a winter as such! So...as you go into autumn, all of these wonderful bulbs are autumn-blooming -as the days start to cool somewhat, they bloom.

Have I got this correctly? I had a friend (now deceased) whodaffs daffs from Australia and New Zealand...and she seemed to thrive on he "turning around." Of course, she was a librarian - so maybe it is a personality thing smile

I'm with Mary Lou...for now I'll enjoy hearing about others success from "Down Under."
