» etamela - Why won't they bloom?

I have daffodiles planted about 4 years ago. The first year they bloomed magnificently but in subsequent years I have gotten few if any blooms. Many don't bloom at all. Why are they doing this? What can I do to get them to bloom again?

I, too, have bulbs that have bloomed in the past but have not bloomed for three years now. I found some helpful info at http://daffodilusa.org/daffodils/bloomin... Hopefully that will be helpful to you as well. Good luck. I'm still not sure which of the 13 reasons given are affecting my bulbs but at least I have a place to start trying to figure it out!

There is a similar discussion going on at this link regarding tulips, and the principles are the same for all flowering bulbs. You might get some answers there and ask some questions if you like.

The American Daffodil Society link which you posted above is the place to find the latest information. As you say, there are many reasons, but I think the most likely reasons are that the foliage has been cut off too soon--and no braiding to make the garden look neat--or the bulbs have gotten crowded.
