» jerrib - Pastorelli's

I can't find the Pastorelli sauce in this area. I know substitutes are ok sometimes. What would you recommend as second best?

» hergestridge - Tough Question Jerri,

Because all I've ever used is Pastorelli's. Contandina makes a pizza sauce and I alway's use their tomato paste. Ragu may not be too bad...
Give one of those a shot and let me know how it turns out.....
Thanks for stopping by,
Steve

» biogardener - I hate sauce with tomatoes

I love pizza, but I hate the taste of cooked tomatoes. I tasted my first real Italian pizza in 1960 when I rented a room from Italians in Toronto. That authentic pizza didn't have tomatoes at all, only olive oil and onions.

When I order pizza, I always ask which ones do not contain tomato sauce. There are great varieties available these days with pesto sauce or Taiwanese sauce or oodles of others. When all else fails, the restaurant will bake me a pizza using Alfredo sauce. My own pizzas have been made with all kinds of salad dressing for the last 30 some years and they are scrumptious.

» jerrib - I give up

I still can't find your pizza sauce here on the west coast. Guess I'll have to substitute!
