My mother is 63 and has been suffering from chrohn's disease now for a few years..cipro, which is a very high powered antibiotic, that usually makes people sick to their stomach, sounds familiar..I think she was prescribed that, but it made her sick and the Dr gave her something else. What happened? Can you give me any information? I can't stand to see her suffer the way she does.I am new at this, I am not sure how to check this mail since I am not a yahoo subscriber, but my e-mail address is skyzmom770@aol.com

Thanks,
Cheryll

I have had Crohn's for 10 years, and I have been on Cipro for 9 of those 10. I am glad that it helped you, but unfortunately it's not always a cure all

The cause of Crohn's disease is not proven.

A 'spontaneous remission'
is possible and it might not have been the antibiotic that did the trick.
Bacteria may have turned-on a function of the immune response system that had not previously worked.
.
This is quite possible..
One drug under test follows.

The cause of Crohn's disease is not proven.
A 'spontaneous remission' is possible and it might not have been the antibiotic that did the trick.
'Bacteria' may have turned-on or -off a function of the immune response system that had not previously worked.
.
This is quite possible... One drug under test follows this premise.

I am not a doctor but all antibiotics will have side effects. Recommended dosages should be followed and so should the feeding schedule... before or after eating etc.
If the disease were caused by bacteria then an antibiotic might stop the disease but if the disease were caused by a toxin or toxic substance then antibiotics are useless. And if the cause is a Eucaryotic parasite then antibiotics might be a hit or miss proposition at best. There are also considerations for each specific person. 'Each person is unique and no two people are alike'.

So don't place all your hope in antibiotics and don't think that if some thing helped a neighbor that it will help in your case. There is no guarantee...

The Holistic approach is again driving in the dark with your head lights turned off...
It might help some if there was nothing to stop the restoration of the inside of the gut...
..Again if there was nothing to stop the restoration of the gut...

So what can stop this restoration or healing? This has not been proven and released to the scientific community nor to the general public... There is no proven cure for Crohn's disease...
Much work is being done but nothing is proven...

About the 'complications' of arthritis and rheumatism etc... and I have had CD sufferers say that they were being treated for thyroid problems etc: Well this is not necessarily Crohn's disease, is it?
Let's assume that a person has no disease but swallows a nail and that nail causes a hole in the gut. Then it is possible that some opportunist condition might develop in that hole but do you call this Crohn's disease. Sound familiar? Have you ever heard of a sore on the skin causing infection? So I'm not convinced that the diagnosis is correct to CD nor am I saying that there isn't a condition in these areas. Just assume that the two conditions are separate and then consider that the two conditions are related and when you look at the treatments consider which symptoms might match which condition and which condition is worse. Treat the real disease even if there are two diseases.

Remember that Crohn's disease is diagnosed by exclusion... Which means if all else fails call it Crohn's disease... or Colitis... or regional ileitis or so such name that is vague enough to cover what is seen... This way some one will be able to relate to the name... not to the real disease...
Once Crohn's disease's cause is found its nanme will change if there is more than one cause...

Does this sound bad? Yes! But how else can you talk about it. And note there is one thing specific to Crohn's disease that is more specific to it than to Colitis... this is the Granuloma... which is most often related to Crohn's and not so often to Colitis... And a granuloma is usually thought to contain a foreign organism, ie bacteria is usual found in a granuloma... But not always so with CD. So what causes the granuloma? Again this is science... And what happens today changes tomorrow...

So now what do you do? You keep reading... And sooner or later you will see the answer...

I tried to reach a few of you before this post... Your addresses are inactive. I will check back if I find the time... There's information overload out there and I appreciate this so I'll try to check again... No promises....

Note: Follow your doctor's advice until you find a better doctor. And I am not a doctor... But as you can understand I wouldn't go to most doctor unless I had no choice... They give no guarantees and they charge more than I make and when you run out of money they send you to a charity hospital or other government medical facility. And the Republicans say that you should pay these high prices because they don't want to pay for dead beats... Guess what? Who's the dead beat? Pay national insurance for everyone absorb the cost of educating the doctors and lower their fees. You've just eliminated the biggest rip off in the US. But insurance companies will cry loud and clear to Congress at your expense. Did you ever notice that when Reagan gave the rich his famous tax reduction there was an immediate and concomitant rise in the Social fees (that's them thar deductions that you pay with taxes) and there was no shortage of real money to cover the social expenses. And the extra money was not saved but was spent as general expenses. Now you try to get help with your bills and you find that you can't. How's that for the great Republican ripoff. Got to laugh and hold that stuff in while you run to the toilet.

Good luck...

I think you are totally wrong. I lived 20 years in Cyprus which is very westernized, at least on the Greek speaking section. Health care is socialized. My friend the diference between here and there is like hell vs heaven (here). I suggest you go live in Russia or Kenya and come back after a year if you survive and tell us if you still think the Republicans are hurting your poor feelings. I also lived in Libya for a year. There I would rather treat myself than let any of those people touch me. Go find the truth and then talk like you know crap.

My you must be Republican.
So is this guy... http://www.ag.state.la.us/

Give me a Democrat any day of he week
especially this one
http://breaux.senate.gov/
whom I met on his first trip to Washington DC

Of my ancestory, I am White Russian. But I'm not about politics. Crohn's disease is the specialty of my research. Or was until the right winger descended from the thrown and stalked and harassed and tormented my son to such extent that my son could not look me in the eye but would rather hide in jail. I had not seen my son since he was a child and only remembered him saying, 'I want my Mommie' at the age of six MONTHS, so it took a while to prove the connection, but patience was rewarded. So I keep my opinion. And I threw research in the trash can until my son can look me in the eye, and while shaking my hand say, 'Hello, Father.'

And yes there is an answer to Crohn's disease! But it needs more research and then presentation for scientific review. So keep your fine Republicans and I will keep my opinions. And chiefly among these is that Louisiana is primative, backward and barbaric. And any state that elects a person who destroys the minds of citizens is no better than Hitler's Nazi Germany! Shall we sing 'Deutschland Uber Alles'? Aber .. macht nicht.

...it's time to go while I wait for word from the dictator. So until next time, Hail Ieyoub!

Guys! Aren't you loosing something? Leave alone political STUPIDITY! Face it: it is not going to help any of you! White Russian, Black Mexican, or Pale Jew: it is not going to help much to argue about how "stupid" Democrats are or how "money-hungry" Republicans. Your guts will still suck no matter what! Can't you just focus on the topic? I need some serious help. My niece (16 y.o.) was just diagnosed with that stinky s-t (CD). Initial treatment with corticosteroids with Immurone and Pentasa brought it down, but liver enzymes show some bile duct damage. Any ideas??? Any smarter thoughts than calling each other names? Shame on both of you, (especially The "WHITE" Russian - very harsh language you use! - has the disease kick in your brains already? Sorry, but calling Mr.Hitler here is VERY inappropriate, body. you must be desperate for attention...). Please, help disregarding your orientation.

Thank you in advance and a Happy New Year!

A. Karpinski, Connecticut ("Democratic" state, but FYI: we ignore Democrats here anyhow - like everywhere else, and we are coming not only from "White" Russia)
