In response to message posted by TMFASLINE101:

I have been on Asacol for just 3 weeks. I don't know the dosage in MGs, but I take 3 pills 3x a day. I have been experiencing headaches, light headedness, fatigue and a lot of leg and ankle pain at night. I had thought the leg pain may be attributed to the medication due to the timing and consistency of it, but was uncertain of my conclusion until reading here.
Glad to have the opportunity to read the comments~!

Wow I didn't realize there was a website where people like us could post. Honestly, I hate this condition. I was recently diagnosed and I take 3*3 tablets a day. I've noticed a great deal of acne that I've never had. I've also noticed fatigure (due to more blood loss)so I'm back to taking more iron. the acne is really wierd. It's only on one cheek. I go to my doc next tuesday, I'll ask him what's up. I know UC is less severe than CD... my heart goes out to you guys. but I'm scared that I'll never get back to normal. and i'm planning to go backpacking across europe this summer... jeez. :-/

I was recently diagnosed with UC 2/05. I became anemic and got my hemoglobin from 9.1 to 12.1 in 6 weeks with Follex 150 forte. I am on Asacol 3 doses/3X also. I am off of the iron and am not feeling so fatigued since my hemoglobin is up. I have had sore legs and ankles also, this site is great to have the support that others don't understand. I have gone through all emotions, but am feeling much more positive about my condition. I also have a trip planned to Europe in June. I am trying to get symptoms under control and understand the condition so that I can go back to a normal life. My GI doc says to rest, activity is fine, but keep a close eye on diet. I also started on Omega 3, fish oils 3x a day and a multivitamin. I am hoping this will increase energy level. There is hope!!!!

Thanks for the note. I leave for Europe in 2 weeks. Life is getting better here also. I had a flareup 2 weeks ago, but it was only 9 days and I got over it without seeing my GI. Rest and a bland diet is helping. I am a runner and my doc says I can start up again slowly. I have done backpacking and know how strenuous that is. Good luck! My GI said to be very careful about the food over there. Check out the Colitis Foundation Guestbook under Yahoo Search. There are recent active entries, good support.

In response to a letter I read on this website. Hi Jewel, I've been diagnossed with UC since Nov. 2oo4. What a releif to know there was something diffanetly wrong with me! I was so sick all last summer and lost so much weight from the constant diarehea and loss of appetite. I lost like 35 pds. in only a few months. I had been on vacation for a month , went down south to see my family. And when i got back up to iowa where me and my husband lived, My family docter told me she thought I had a parasite infection and so treated me for that. I did get some better for a while but we were in the process of moving to Illinois to be with me family and so we moved in August, by then I was so sick again. Diarrehea , no appetite and all that stuff again. By November I had etablished a good G.I. doc and had a colonoscopy done and an endoscopy. Turns out he found the ulcerative colitis. Put me on asacol 3 pills 3 x;s a day. also he put me on diphenoxyl{Lomotil} atrop 2.5 m g for the diarrehea.I can take up to 6 pills 3 x's a day if needed. But I find that 2 every a.m. is enougth to do the job on the diarrehea Anyway,,, the real reason I'm writing is to find out if anyone on this site has ever experienced any eye problems from the asacol. Because I've been having alot of blurred vision and watery eyes, headaches. Just wondering. If anyone has ,, please respond. I've got real bad allergies too so I'm not sure if it's from the asacol or allergies. But i'm pretty sure i read that before about asascol. That it could cause some eye problems.

» Timson - Flare up?

The usual story about diagnosis applies for me as well. Only differance is that when my Gastro (a leading CD researcher) did my colonoscopy he found virtually nothing diagnosable as Crohn's. He went so far as to tell my parents (I was 20 when diagnosed, 21 now) that I did not have Crohn's at all. But when I visited him for my followup, he informed me that what he did see was lymph nodes enflamed (not uncommon in young males acc. to the tech he consulted with) and that when he sent my blood work out the lab found elevated ASCA (an enzyme) in my blood. Acc. to the Gastro, ASCA + my symptoms (severe nausea, loss of apetite, weight loss, constipation (oddly enough, NOT diarhea usually, although occasionally)) = Crohn's. So he put me on 2400mg Asacol daily (3*2/day). Things were going great. I was back to my old self. I went on with my life, yadda yadda yadda. Recently, the weight loss returned as did the loss of apetite (likely a cause of the weightloss). My parents are getting worried (I lost 20 pounds in about 2 month), I eat about 1 meal a day + morning coffee or hot choclate, and more recently (today in fact) I have severe gas, bloating, abdominal pain (so much so that I am having minor pain when I take deep breaths).

Sounds like a flare up, yes? If so, that would finally be conclusive evidence that what I have IS Crohn's (bear in mind the family history IS there so it is not unlikely).

I'm contemplating trying to get an emergeny appointment with my gastro but he is currently on vacation. I will rest tonight and see how I feel in the morning. Hopefully symptoms will fade and I can go back to life as usual.

Thank you all for listening while I rant.

» michaelwilhoit - HELP!!!

I was diagnosed with a mild case of Ulcerative Colitus back in 04. I have had a recent flare-up that has me in bed 24/7 with diarrehea almost on the hour. I have been taking asacol for a little over 2 weeks now and am noticing my symptoms are only becoming worse. I have never had this problem so bad. I don't know what to eat that may ease the pain. I'm in a serious mess here any advise would me greatly appreciated!

I was diagnosed with UC about 3 years ago and also take 3-3times a day. I do have blured vision in my right eye and also have really dry eyes. Hope yours gets better. My problem now is discolored urine. It has a redish tint. I'm not sure if its blood or maybe something from the Asacol.
